Security Assessments
Backbone is rated by the National Security Agency (NSA) to perform INFOSEC Assessment Methodology risks assessments for both the government and the private sector (http://www.iatrp.com/companies.cfm). NSA has specialized knowledge in providing information systems security assessments and training computer professionals in comprehensive computer security methodology and practices. Backbone incorporates these national standards with commercial standards and methodologies to formulate an all-encompassing vulnerability assessment methodology. Incorporating these methodologies with Backbone’s specialized knowledge with regard to information security laws, regulations and mandates, provides a solid foundation for security assessments.
OUR STANDARDS
......
Network Security Training
Backbone’s computer security curriculum has been reviewed by National Level Information Assurance Subject Matter Experts under the Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Program sponsored by the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) and the National Security Agency (NSA). As a result of the evaluation, CNSS and NSA certified that Backbone's curriculum meets the National Training Standard for Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Professionals, NSTISSI 4011, and Designated Approving Authority (DAA), NSTISSI 4012. The Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Review Committee has recertified the Backbone Security courseware as meeting all of the elements of the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) National Training Standard valid through June 2009. |

OUR SPECIALTIES
.......
Network Security Devices
Backbone also specializes in computer security products. Ribcage®, a security appliance (firewall, VPN appliance, intrusion detection/prevention sensor) along with Backbone’s superior customer service, helped Backbone to win the “Company of the Year” award in 2002 from the Association of University Research Parks (AURP). In 2004, Backbone's Ribcage® achieved FIPS 140-2 validation and is listed on the "Validated FIPS 140-1 and FIPS 140-2 Cryptographic Modules List" at http://csrc.ncsl.nist.gov/cryptval/140-1/1401val2004.htm
24x7 Network Operations and Security Center
Backbone's Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC) will provide 24x7 network security monitoring, analysis, response, and reporting. Backbone Security engineers will configure a Ribcage® security appliance to monitor the client network. Monitoring network activity uses Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) that include sensors placed at strategic locations on an organization’s network. When a pattern of suspicious activity is detected, actions can be taken immediately to terminate the activity and thereby limit potential damage that could have otherwise resulted had the attack gone undetected.
Steganography Analysis Research Center
Backbone working with Fairmont State University and the National White Collar Crime Center supports the Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC) in North Central West Virginia (www.sarc-wv.com). The SARC is a national repository for digital steganography application fingerprints and signatures to help law enforcement in combating cyber crime and the global war on terrorism. The Center satisfies the critical need for immediate and long-term research into breakthrough methodologies and technologies for detecting and defeating the use of steganography. Computer forensic examiners view the use of digital steganography as a very serious emerging technological obstacle, which is documented in the three national studies conducted by the Institute for Security Technology Studies (ISTS) of Dartmouth College. The SARC has already established working relationships with the National Software Reference Library (NSRL), the DoD Cyber Crime Institute (DCCI), the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance (NCFTA), and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) (formerly Internet Fraud Complaint Center).
